Mada in Salih also called the Ḥijr ("rocky place"), is an ancient city located in northern Hijaz (in present-day Saudi Arabia), about 22 km from the city of al'UlÄ.
Within Arab society, MadÄ'in á¹¢Äliḥ is considered a cursed place, due to the fact that it is mentioned in the XV of the Koran, entitled to Hijr.
Because of these verses, many Saudis do not recommend in good faith, to Muslims or not, to undertake pilgrimages to this place, despite the government itself trying to encourage tourism.
