Waikīkī Beach

Waikiki (Hawaiian language Waikīkī, ʋaikiːkiː) is a district of Honolulu, in the homonymous county of the state of Hawaii (United States). It is located on the south coast of the island of Oahu. The district extends from the Ala Wai Canal (a canal dug to drain the humidache area previously found there) in the northwest to the Diamond Head volcano in the east.

The name means, in Hawaiian, water sprayed, gushing, and refers to the springs and streams that fed the wetland that once separated Waikiki and the interior of the island. For a long time, Waikiki was a place of retreat, in particular, it was such for the Hawaiian royals in the nineteenth century.
