The BELVUE Museum (French: Musée BELvue, Dutch: BELvue Museum) is a museum in Brussels, Belgium, which focuses on the history of Belgium.
In 1977, the Hôtel Bellevue was transformed into a museum building, which houses a collection of nearby royal museums of art and history. After 1992, two small museums related to the history of the Belgian monarchy were opened in the building: the Dynasty Museum (Musée de la Dynastie) and the King Baldwin Memorial (Mémorial Roi Baudouin).
In 2005, the Hotel Bellevue reopened as a museum dedicated to the history of Belgium, presenting a chronological exhibition on the history of the nation since 1830. Eleven years after its opening, the BELvue, managed by the King Baldwin Foundation, has completely renewed its permanent exhibition. Employing a thematic approach and with a modern and interactive exhibition layout, the museum offers visitors the keys to understanding Belgium and the Belgian company.
Seven social issues are addressed in the rooms: democracy, prosperity, solidarity, pluralism, migration, language and Europe. Each team is presented in the first place from the point of view of today, later developed and explained through the history of Belgium. How have Belgium and Belgians become what they are today? In the new BELvue exhibition, history is not an end in itself, but rather a means to explain and provide the keys to understanding and interpreting our society.
This overview of the past and present of Belgiums is completed by a gallery of over 200 objects. Presented chronologically from the 19th century to the present, the pieces embody the "physical memory" of Belgium. Visitors will find everyday objects, works of art and design, well-known brands, scientific discoveries, references to great sports achievements and objects that recall the richness of our popular culture.
