Albergati Palace - Senatorial Palace

Senatorial Palace of Bologna, set up for shows and exhibitions.

Construction of the palace began on April 29, 1519 to house the Albergati family.

In 1540 the palace was enlarged in via Malpertuso, with the reconstruction of various external details and ornaments.

In the nineteenth century, due to the disappearance of the Albergati family, the palace was divided into various apartments.

Inside the courtyard of the building there is a garden of Roman origin dating back to the 1st century AD.

The design of the complex is uncertain and is probably attributed to Baldassarre Peruzzi or Domenico da Varignana.

Inside the building there are numerous stuccos and frescoes dating back to the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries by Francesco Gessi, Bartolomeo Cesi and Andrea Sirani; in 2008 a fire seriously damaged the structure of the top floors and the various frescoes.

Today the building hosts various art exhibitions.

There is a villa with the same name, built in the seventeenth century, in the municipality of Zola Predosa, which was owned by the same family.
