Villa Barbarich - Pezzana - Fraccaro

18th century Villa Barbarich-Pezzana-Fraccaro with frescoes attributed to Pozzoserrato.

Ludovico Pozzoserrato, Italianization of Lodewijk Toeput (Antwerp or Malines, about 1550 - Treviso, 1604 or 1605), was a naturalized Italian Flemish painter, active in Veneto and especially in Treviso.

The two barchesse, the private oratory, demolished in the nineteenth century, and the large Italian garden, now lost but re-proposed in front of the water facade in the eighteenth century, date back to different times.

The first noble floor is entirely decorated with a cycle of frescoes executed between 1580 and 1615 and some rooms on the ground floor are adorned with refined late-eighteenth-century stuccoes and Art Nouveau decorations.

In 1331 John of Luxembourg king of Bohemia, son of Henry VII of Luxembourg, invested Nicolò Foscari "count of Zelarino". His fiefdom extended over 400 fields in the locality today called, in fact, the County and the title was preserved until the eighteenth century. In the past, his territory was divided into the peaks of Zelarino, Zelo, Selvanese and Gatta.

During the Venetian period Zelarino became a coveted holiday resort for the patricians (testimony of this are the numerous Venetian villas).

After the fall of the Serenissima, with the Napoleonic occupations first and then the Austrian, the locality became an autonomous municipality within the district of Mestre and this was until 1926 when Zelarino was absorbed into the great municipality of Venice wanted by Mussolini (Royal Decree 15 July 1926, no. 1317, in Official Gazette no. 183 of 9 August 1926).

At the same time, the parish of San Vigilio also passed from the Diocese of Treviso to the Patriarchate of Venice. A street was named after the last mayor, Ottaviano Ried, in 1975.

In 2010 the Villa was involved in a restoration project that brought back its former glory.
