Archivio di Stato - Palazzo Mazzancolli

The State Archives of Terni was established as a Section of the State Archives and, by ministerial decree of May 15, 1957, transformed into the State Archives starting in 1963. The institute is located in Palazzo Mazzancolli, one of the oldest buildings of the city, located in the historic center.

The Section of the State Archives of Orvieto depends on Terni. In its deposits it preserves the archives of the state offices of the province and other archives of considerable historical interest, for a period between the fourteenth and twentieth centuries.

The oldest archival collections are the notarial archives and the historical archive of the Municipality of Terni, which documents the administrative activity of the body from 1315 to 1952.

The State Archive of Terni is characterized by the presence in its repositories of archives of industries of national importance, which operate or have operated in the city.

The Institute holds 93 archival collections, divided into state archives, archives of public bodies and private archives.

The present documentation consists of 43217 paper pieces (envelopes, files, registers), 1122 parchments, 9834 including maps and drawings, 440 microfilms.
