Campovalano Necropolis

It is a Picenian necropolis used from the 10th to the 2nd century. B.C. The area that can be visited extends for about one and a half hectares and has returned, up to now, 624 tombs.

In the plain occupied by the necropolis, archaeologists estimate a total number of about 15,000 burials.

In the area it is possible to visit the reconstruction, on a 1: 1 scale, of the largest mound found in Abruzzo.

It is a cairn of 25 m. in diameter inside which is the tomb n.2, certainly belonging to the most important person of his time.

Furthermore, it will be possible to appreciate the panorama of several other tumuli that are located on the upstream side of the Via Sacra, the road on which the funeral rites took place.

Admission is free of charge and, upon request, you can take advantage of a guided tour by the expert staff of the ABAP Superintendency of Abruzzo.
