Roman cisterns

The cistern was built when the ancient Umbrian center of Amelia in the province of Terni became a Roman municipality. It is located below Piazza Matteotti, the forum of the Roman Ameria, and today the Piazza del Comune. It is a complex made up of 10 rooms of similar size and intercommunicating.

Each measures 19 meters in length, between 5 and 6 meters in width and height.
The cistern was fed both through the wells, in which rainwater was conveyed, and that of the drains of the roofs and the natural impluvium of the slopes.
