Quattropani

One of the best views of Lipari.

Quattropani is a fraction of the municipality of Lipari, in the province of Messina, in Sicily.

The territory of the hamlet was populated in prehistoric times, during the Neolithic, as evidenced by the findings in the Castellaro Vecchio area dating back to the fourth millennium BC, which testify to the presence of a village with an agricultural-industrial vocation.

The original nucleus of Quattropani can be traced back to the locality now called Chiesa Vecchia.

Here there was a small church dedicated to the Madonna of the Oreto, which later became Loreto.

At the end of the 16th century the religious building was rebuilt as a sanctuary and dedicated to the Madonna della Catena, a cult particularly felt in this area, so much so that the village soon became a pilgrimage destination.

Every year the feast of Maria Santissima della Catena is held in Quattropani, with a procession from the parish church to the sanctuary on the night between 7 and 8 September.
