Baldassini Palace - Luigi Sturzo Institute

Baldassini Palace is a Renaissance palace located in Rome, Italy. It was designed by the architect Antonio da Sangallo the Younger between 1516 and 1519 for the papal jurist Melchiorre Baldassini. The palace is considered one of the best examples of Roman palaces of the early 16th century.

The palace is currently home to the Luigi Sturzo Institute, a cultural institution founded in 1949. The institute promotes social and political studies, and its library houses a collection of over 100,000 books and periodicals.

Here are some of the architectural highlights of Baldassini Place:

  • The facade is simple and elegant, with a rusticated stone ground floor and a piano nobile with three arched windows.
  • The entrance portal is decorated with a coat of arms and lions' heads.
  • The courtyard is the focal point of the palace, and it is surrounded by a loggia with Doric columns.
  • The interior of the palace is decorated with frescoes by students of Raphael, including Giovanni da Udine, Perin del Vaga, and Polidoro da Caravaggio.

The palace is located in the historic center of Rome, in the rione of Sant'Eustachio. The rione is known for its narrow streets and its many palaces and churches.
