Campagnano in Rome is the oldest established settlement, dating back to the Bronze Age, around 1500 BC. it appears west of Monte Razzano, near the Baccano valley and Lake Martignano.
In antiquity, intense deforestation works seem to have occurred only starting from the 6th century BC. To the 8th century BC. a small settlement in Mola dei Monti, already occupied in the Bronze Age, and a necropolis of around a hundred tombs in the Costa del Follettino area are dated; furthermore in 1985, during agricultural work, an isolated tomb was identified in the area between Monte dell'Impiccato and Poggio del Mello; dating from the 8th century BC. is determined on the basis of the grave goods containing very little ceramic and many bronze objects.
In the 7th century BC we are witnessing an attempt to recolonise the heights of Monte Sant'Angelo, located between the Baccano valley and Lake Martignano.
All the tombs of this period resemble those of the Faliscan and Capenate territories much more than those of the Veientian territory, since, gravitating in the Veientian orbit, the area in question undergoes the influence of that culture formed between the Sabina, the Cimini Mountains and the Tiber.
The Etruscans were responsible for the tagliata (an artificial throat) of the 7th century BC. which connects the Baccano valley with Lake Martignano.
