Former Tobacco Factory

The Former Tobacco Factory is a neoclassical building designed in the first half of the 19th century by the engineer Mario Musumeci.

Intended for a long period as a military district and barracks of the Bourbon cavalry, in 1893 it became the headquarters of the tobacco "manufacture", located in the premises of the very central via Garibaldi in Catania.

In a short time it became one of the most productive factories in the city. In the early 1900s the production of "Tuscan" cigars began and after the Second World War the workforce reached a thousand units.

Today it will become the seat of the Regional Interdisciplinary Museum of Catania.
