Caucana Archaeological Park

Caucana Archaeological Park is the area of the ancient city, known for its archaeological excavations, it is located a few hundred meters from Punta Secca, a few kilometers from Marina di Ragusa, which has risen to fame as the site of the home of Inspector Montalbano thanks to a successful television series.

In the Greek period, the fertile and water-rich territory soon became the site of small settlements which together took the name of Kaucanae.

The archaeological area of Kaukana includes a late ancient settlement consisting of just under thirty buildings.

They are located along a low coastal ridge which extends for about 700 m in an east-west direction, separating the beach from the hinterland, in the stretch immediately east of the current Punta Secca.

The main nucleus of the archaeological area is included in the park, while other buildings are located isolated between the holiday homes or between the seafront and the beach.
