The Archaeological Area of Eraclea Minoa is located on the southwest coast of Sicily, near the town of Cattolica Eraclea, and is one of the most important archaeological sites in the region.
The area includes the ruins of the ancient Greek city of Eraclea Minoa, founded in the 6th century BC, and a later Roman city. Among the main monuments of the archaeological area are the Greek temple, the Cyclopean walls, the Roman baths, the theater, and the acropolis.
The temple, located on the top of the hill, was the religious center of the city and offers a panoramic view of the sea.
The Cyclopean walls, made of enormous stone blocks, surrounded the city and served as a defense system.
The Roman baths, on the other hand, were a complex of public baths used by Roman citizens.
The Archaeological Area of Eraclea Minoa was discovered in 1906 and excavations are still ongoing.
The site is open to the public and offers visitors the opportunity to explore the ancient history of Sicily and admire Greek and Roman architecture and art.
