Louvre Pyramid

The Louvre Pyramid is a glass and metal pyramid that serves as an atrium to the Louvre Museum in Paris.

The Louvre originates from a fortification made by Philip Augustus at the time of his departure for the Crusade of 1190, in order to protect the right bank in his absence. A little further north of the current Cour Carré a fortress was built, some vestiges of which were found during excavations in the 1980s: the remains of a large tower around which it is possible to walk during visits to the museum and which served as a treasure chest. for the Royal Treasury and Archives.

The Louvre Pyramid is a work commissioned by President François Mitterrand in 1983, it was designed by the architect Ieoh Ming Pei and was inaugurated on March 4, 1988.
