Avenue Foch Gardens

The Avenue-Foch Gardens are a green space in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, in the districts of Chaillot and Porte-Dauphine.

The gardens were created in 1854 by Adolphe Alphand (1817-1891) on the initiative of Napoleon III. They are made at the same time as the boulevard. This later bears the names of Avenue de l'Impératrice, General Ulrich, Bois-de-Boulogne and then, from 1929, Avenue Foch.

It is representative of the ambitious urban planning policy of the Second Empire, which led to the multiplication of green spaces in the capital. Quickly popular throughout Paris, it is surrounded by sumptuous palaces.
