The Pino Pascali Foundation of Polignano a Mare, founded in 2010, is based in the former municipal slaughterhouse of the town, in the area of the seafront to the south and overlooking the sea. The venue was officially inaugurated on 1 June 2012 with a great art festival entitled Ouverture. The Foundation is a joint venture between the Puglia Region and the Municipality of Polignano a Mare and makes use of a management fund and public funding.
The birth of the museum dates back to 1998 when a large anthological exhibition by Pino Pascali was inaugurated, curated by Achille Bonito Oliva and Pietro Marino, on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of his death.
The Pino Pascali Foundation is the only permanent museum of Contemporary Art in Puglia and its activity is divided as follows: Temporary exhibitions, The permanent collection, The Pino Pascali Prize.
