Steps of the Gardens of Princess Jolanda - Ascent of Capodimonte

The Staircase of the Principessa Jolanda Gardens, with its monumental piperno gardens, was designed by the architect Antonio Niccolini at the behest of King Francis I of Bourbon, between 1824 and 1826 to create a connection between the road to Capodimonte and the Royal Palace.

The works began in 1833 and ended in 1836.

At the center of the staircase, in place of the obelisk of the original project, a monumental plane tree was placed which is still visible today in all its beauty. In the gardens there are still a monumental camphor and a cedar.

At the base of the staircase there are two pillars on which two huge Egyptian canopes in white mamo stand and two garlands, one on the left with the wording of the gardens and the other, on the right, with the coats of arms of the Municipality of Naples and the Savoy family.

In the Fascist period it was named after Princess Jolanda Margherita of Savoy.
