Regina Margherita Theater

The municipal administration of Racalmuto, mayor Gaspare Matrona approved the construction of the Regina Margherita Theater on 19 December 1870.

The area of the garden of the Monastery of Santa Chiara in 1605 was allocated for the construction of the work, which following expropriation, had been used for public use.

The theater was inaugurated on November 9, 1880, in the presence of the then Minister of Public Works Francesco Paolo Perez. Equipped with 250 seats, a mystical pit, two tiers of boxes and a gallery, it was designed by the architect Dionisio Sciascia, a pupil of Filippo Basile who subsequently used the acoustic studies developed for the Racalmuto Theater for his next most important project "the Teatro Massimo" of Palermo, and perhaps for this reason he is still called " Il Massimo in miniature ".
