Marghera Fortress - Virtual Tour 360°

Marghera Fortress (Forte Marghera) is a nineteenth-century fortress and former barracks of the Italian Army located in Venice, about five kilometers from the historic center.

The fort was part of the Entrenched Camp of Mestre and of the wider defensive system of the lagoon.

Today it is the property of the municipality of Venice, a public park, venue for cultural events and productions.

The name derives from the ancient town of Marghera and has in turn given its name to today's Porto Marghera.

Forte Marghera is also a place where numerous initiatives related to contemporary art take place.

At the Palmanova Pavilion, a structure of over one thousand m² located in the immediate vicinity of the elliptical dock of the fort and its French barracks, artistic residences, laboratories and research projects are created.

In addition to hosting a pavilion of the Venice International Art Biennale on the mainland, in 2017 the Fort was involved in one of the initiatives of the Muve Foundation to enhance and promote the Venetian artistic and cultural heritage outside the lagoon island: in one of the buildings of the complex was held the temporary exhibition Gruppo di Famiglia, which exhibited sculptural works of the Italian and international twentieth century from the International Gallery of Modern Art of Ca 'Pesaro.
