Enoteca of the Castle of Brolio

The Ricasoli one of the oldest families in Italy who have dedicated themselves to viticulture since 1141, without interruption, a fact that has been able to boast the recognition of the fifth oldest family business in the world, the second in the viticulture sector.

The first stones of the Castle of Brolio in Chianti date back to the early Middle Ages. The castle came into possession of the Ricasoli thanks to an exchange of lands as early as 1141. Being on the border line between the territories of Siena and Florence, Brolio soon became the scene of all the contrasts of the time, representing the Florentine bulwark against the fearsome Siena. Over the centuries, the castle has suffered assaults and destruction in numerous historic battles, from the fifteenth-century Aragonese and Spanish attacks, to the seventeenth-century disputes, up to the air and artillery bombings of the Second World War.

Today the manor, rebuilt and modified several times, bears the signs of the most diverse eras from the fortified ramparts of the Middle Ages to the insertions of the Romanesque and Neo-Gothic, up to the specific features of the Tuscan nineteenth century.

The castle is surrounded by 230 hectares of vineyards that are part of the company's land, the largest in the Chianti Classico area: 1,200 hectares between the municipalities of Gaiole and Castelnuovo Berardenga - valleys, hills, oak and chestnut woods, with 26 cultivated hectares to olive trees, which enjoy the beauty and the great variety of the land and climate of this central area of ??Chianti.

Near the castle, in the state-of-the-art cellars, the same mission of excellence is pursued today that led Bettino Ricasoli to invent the Chianti formula in 1872.

The production is labeled "Barone Ricasoli" and is dedicated to Chianti Classico. In total, around the Castello di Brolio area, the family owns 240 hectares of vineyards, 26 of olive trees and employs 150 workers.
