MAiO Museum - Hostage art and visionary graphics

The MAiO of Cassina de 'Pecchi (MILANO) is a municipal museum born in 2015 registered with the Association of Small Italian Museums.

The museum is dedicated to Hostage Art and visionary graphics with the aim of telling the 1641 works of art stolen by the Nazis during the last world war and still prisoners of war: more than 800 paintings, numerous sculptures (including Michelangelo's Head of the Faun, symbol of the museum) tapestries, carpets, musical instruments (including Stradivarius violins) and many manuscripts of which we have evidence thanks to the catalog The work to be rediscovered written by Rodolfo Siviero, the famous 007 of art.

The MAiO was created to suggest a theme and provoke an emotion, that of the absence of art, because it was stolen, neglected, ignored, inaccessible and wounded by wars and earthquakes. We like to think that in this place you can meet those who have claimed and still claim the right to beauty and aesthetic emotion.

On 16 May 2015 in Cassina de 'Pecchi, according to the project of the journalist and writer Salvatore Giannella, the MAiO (Museum of Hostage Art and Visionary Graphics) was born on the top floor of the Cascina Casale Tower with the aim of to raise a cry of alarm on the stories of plundered art that cross our country, and beyond.

It all began with the extraordinary story of the superintendent of the Marche region Pasquale Rotondi who saved a priceless heritage during the last war and by Rodolfo Siviero, 007 of art, who compiled a list of those works that were lost.

This project has as its first intent to keep the attention on stolen art high and as a general mission to save us from the absence of art and beauty through continuous research, interactive installations, temporary exhibitions, encounters with artists. , creative workshops for all ages, theatrical visits and music.
