Burgos Cathedral - Virtual Tour 360 °

The only Spanish cathedral that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site on its own.

Although Gothic predominates, the cathedral admirably blends other artistic styles as well, as its construction lasted from 1221 until 1765.

In the main facade there is the Porta del Perdón, embellished with a star-shaped rose window and a group of statues representing the kings of Castile. On both sides rise the towers, 84 meters high, surmounted by magnificent jagged spiers of the fifteenth century.

But the most beautiful sculptural complex is that of the Porta del Sarmental, with the image of a Christ Pantocrator surrounded by the apostles and evangelists. Inside, the drum of the central nave is of considerable beauty, surmounted by a splendid Mudejar vault, under which lie the remains of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, El Cid Campeador, and his wife Donna Jimena.

Very close is the beautiful Golden Staircase by Diego de Siloé, built in the 16th century and inspired by the Italian Renaissance. On the sides there are 19 chapels, including that of the Connestabile and that of Santa Tecla. But the temple also houses valuable works of art: it is a unique collection made up of exceptional objects, which includes altarpieces, paintings, choir stalls, tombs and sculptures.
