The Church of San Giuliano - Virtual Tour 360°

The Church of San Giuliano is a late Baroque church in Catania, located on the east side of via dei Crociferi, in the San Giuliano district of the same name.

The current site of the church, located in the primitive Greco-Roman area of ??the city of Catania, stands on the ruins of a pagan temple.

From the primitive hermitage outside the walls, located on the hill of Santa Sofia since the 6th century AD. the nuns moved into the city at the beginning of the 13th century in the Civita district at the Church of Santa Venera, probably located on the current site of the Church of San Gaetano alla Marina.

The church is located in front of the Jesuit College and is surrounded by a precious wrought iron gate, its convex facade and its simple lines give it an aspect of rare elegance. Greek cross plan, elongated octagon plan and apsidal arms, single hall covered by a dome and decorated with stuccoes, cornices and moldings with pure gold profiles.

Entrance vestibule surmounted by a choir loft, screened by very refined gratings. Below the vestibule, there is the crypt, for the burial of the same nuns.
