Diocesan Museum, Episcopal Palace of Catanzaro

The museum structure is located inside the Episcopal palace, the latter an integral part of the Bishopric complex which, from the Norman age onwards, went to constitute the city of the bishop together with the millenary mass of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and of the Saints. Peter and Paul.

The Museum is spread over three rooms and preserves works of art from the ancient medieval parishes that no longer exist, from the churches of convents and monasteries, from the Cathedral and also from the territory of the ancient diocese of Catanzaro.

The most substantial nucleus is attested in what was the Cathedral Treasury to which numerous sacred vestments are confirmed and, in particular, the rich silverware, both escaped from the destruction and theft of the last war.

Mainly, the exhibition room offers a rich, although not complete, choice of textile equipment of the Catanzaro Cathedral, with vestments dating from the 18th to the 20th century in which stand out tapestries in thirds, copes, chasubles, chalice veils, papal slippers and mitres.
