It is considered the northernmost point of the European mainland.
It is said that to be on the closest point to the North Pole one would have to go to Knivskjellodden (71 ° 11 '08 ″ north; 25 ° 40 ′ 33 ″ east) and this is the northernmost point in Europe, which in fact is not very far from the North Cape.
