Strozzi Palace

One of the best known and most important exhibition centers in Italy, Palazzo Strozzi, whose construction began in 1489 at the behest of Filippo Strozzi, is also a symbol of Italian Renaissance architecture.

The compact shape of the building, similar to a small fortress located in the heart of the city, represented the model of a noble residence in 15th-century Florence. The palace is spread over three floors around an enchanting courtyard which is often used as a place for cultural meetings and performances or as a space for large art installations.

Between 1489 and 1538, the building project was developed, in succession, by three of the major architects of the Florentine Renaissance: Benedetto da Maiano, Simone del Pollaiolo known as il Cronaca, and Baccio d'Agnolo.

Almost cubic in shape, the building has facades characterized by an imposing ashlar and two series of mullioned windows.
