England Hotel Rome

Historic hotel in Rome.

A few steps from the legendary Spanish Steps and the bustle of via Condotti, via Borgognona and via Frattina, the historic fashion district, the hotel is in an exceptional position near the main attractions, such as the Fontana di Trevi and the Roman Forum, and from Villa Borghese, the green lung of the city.

The building that houses the hotel dates back to the mid-16th century when it was used as a residence for visitors to Palazzo Torlonia, located across the street. In the 15th century, the local area was renowned for hosting the best hotels in the city and attracting foreign visitors and international communities. It is adjacent to Via Borgognona, a historic street known for luxury shopping.

In 1845, the Palazzo di Torlonia guesthouse was transformed into a well-known hotel, thanks to its popularity with British visitors, such as the Hotel d'Angleterre.
Monarchs, film moguls and famous writers remained here including Lord Byron, John Keats, Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, and Elizabeth Taylor.

The design of the England Hotel was inspired by the Italian architect Alessandro Pasini and the furnishings and furnishings were inspired by the designer Roberto Terrinoni who worked under the artistic direction of Countess Cristina Gotti Lega.

The first renovations date back to 2008 and affected the entire fourth floor, reducing the 21 rooms to 13, larger rooms, redecorated with hand-blown Murano glass chandeliers and modern fabrics and amenities. Since then, the other floors have been refurbished in a similar way.
