Circumetna railway - Paternò

The Paternò station is a railway station of the Circumetnea Railway built to serve the municipality of the same name.                                                       Construction work on the station began in 1890. On February 2, 1895, the station was put into service together with the Catania Borgo and section and that of Adrano.

The surrounding landscape was made up of citrus groves and intensive cultivation. The station had a large freight yard for the loading of fruit and vegetables, especially oranges, wines and dried fruit to be transported to the port of Catania for boarding. Over the years, the station has been reached and incorporated into the town. However, in the post-war period, freight traffic gradually disappeared causing the decommissioning of the relative plants.

As part of the restructuring and transformation program of the standard gauge Borgo-Paternò section, the station will be replaced by a new double gauge "Paternò station".
