Turris Libisonis Archaeological Park - Roman city

It is a wonderful Archaeological Park that can be visited together with the Museum, (National Archaeological Museum Antiquarium Turritano) the price also includes the description of the site by a very courteous and passionate museum operator / guide.

The Archaeological Site belongs to the Colonia Iulia Turris Libisonis which was the ancient Roman city of Porto Torres in the province of Sardinia et Corsica.

Together with the small settlement of Usellus, it was the first fully Roman colony in Sardinia.

Born on the mouth of the Riu Mannu in a strategic maritime position already exploited by the Phoenicians in more remote times, it was an important port directly connected with Rome. The city remained of great importance until the fifteenth century, when it was replaced by Sassari as a reference urban center.

The ancient city center corresponds to the current Turris Libisonis Archaeological Park adjacent to the Turritano Antiquarium museum.

From the historical point of view it has its own charm.

The visit includes an exhibition inside the museum and an external excursion that the 'guide' makes very smooth and pleasant.

There is a lot to see: the paved streets, the mosaic rooms of rich domus, the tabernae, three different spas ... Unmissable!

A must visit if you pass through Porto Torres.
