Municipality of Bronte

Bronte (Bronti in Sicilian) is an Italian town in the metropolitan city of Catania in Sicily. It extends to the western slopes of Etna. It is a municipality of the Etna Park and the Nebrodi Park known for the variety of the Bronte green pistachio.

Bronte, Eden of pistachio, with a fruit with a taste and aroma universally recognized as unique and particular. The "green gold", as the "Green Pistachio of Bronte D.O.P." is called, the Protected Designation of Origin was obtained in 2009. Pistachio is the main economic resource of the vast territory of the town of Etna.

According to legend, it was the Cyclops Bronte, son of Neptune, who founded the city. Findings of funeral cells from the 8th century BC suggest that the first inhabitants of the area were the Sicilians, who settled on Mount Bolo.
