The museum is dedicated to the history of cars created by Horacio Raul Pagani (Casilda, 10 November 1955) who is an Argentine entrepreneur, founder and owner of Pagani Automobili.
Pagani is of Italian origin and has Italian citizenship. The paternal grandfather emigrated to Argentina from Appiano Gentile at the end of the 19th century.
Horacio, the son of a baker of Como origin, was born in a small town in Argentina and from the tender age of 12 he began to build car models with makeshift materials. At the age of 20, he made his debut in the world of racing cars, creating a Formula 3 car that competes in Argentina with the colors of the official Renault team.
The meeting with the driver Juan Manuel Fangio changes his life and helps him to get closer to Modena. When he arrived in Italy in 1982, his first activity was that of a third level metalworker at Lamborghini in Sant'Agata Bolognese. Before setting up on his own with the foundation of his car manufacturer in San Cesario sul Panaro, he worked with the design groups of the Lamborghini Diablo, the P140 and the L30, the Countach Anniversary.
His dream of making his own supercar began in 1988 with the "C8 Project" and, initially, the name chosen for the prototype was Fangio F1; but by the time the completed and homologated car is presented at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show, Fangio has already disappeared. Pagani therefore gives his car the name of Zonda, proposed to him by some of his friends, because it is the name of the Argentine track where the last Formula 3 race in Argentina took place.
In 1991 Pagani founded the Modena Design company, which became a supplier to sports car manufacturers such as Dallara, Ferrari, Berman, Lange and Renault. On several occasions he has declared that his source of inspiration has always been the figure of Leonardo Da Vinci, capable of prodigiously embodying the perfect combination of art and science.
In 2010 the official monograph "Pagani, the story of a dream" by Roberto Morelli and Hugo Racca was published. On 19 June 2018, the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia awarded Horacio Pagani an honorary master's degree in vehicle engineering.
