Ostuni

Ostuni, the White City of Salento, is located in the province of Brindisi at more than 200 meters above sea level, on the last offshoots of the Murgia area. This white jewel of Puglia is one of the most famous places in Salento together with Santa Maria di Leuca, Otranto and Taranto.

Ostuni, as you can easily imagine, owes its name White City to the color of most of the houses in the city, especially in the historic center. In fact, in the past the city of Ostuni was hit several times by the plague and covering the walls with lime made it possible to sanitize the area.

Renowned tourist destination Ostuni boasts a wonderful medieval village, full of narrow streets and houses whitewashed with lime in a maze reminiscent of an Arab casbah.

A walk in the old town, called the "terra" to distinguish it from the more recent "marina", offers picturesque views of alleys, steep stairways, courtyards and squares overlooked by white houses embellished with geraniums, craft shops, typical restaurants and shops.
