Carpegna Palace is a historic building located in Rome, adjacent to the Trevi Fountain.
It has been the seat of the National Academy of San Luca since 1934. Palazzo Carpegna was built between the end of the sixteenth century and the first half of the seventeenth century by a pupil of Giacomo Della Porta.
The original owner of the building was the Vaini family from Imola, around 1630 the building was bought by Count Ambrogio di Carpegna, who commissioned Francesco Borromini important expansion and renovation works.
On his death, the palace was inherited by his brother, Cardinal Ulderico Carpegna, who continued in the implementation of the project, albeit downsized.
The Carpegna family remained the owner until 1731, the year of the death of Ulderico, the last prince of Scavolino, who appointed his nephew, Marquis Emilio Orsini de 'Cavalieri Sannesi, his heir.
