Simon Benetton Historical Archive

The Simon Benetton Historical Archive is the general archive (Valdobbiadene-Treviso) created by the will of the Master Simon Benetton, with the direct collaboration of the curator Artur Valerio, assisted by the Benetton family, given their deep knowledge of the Master's work, people of reference as related to him during his long period of activity.

Being the only body authorized to verify the authenticity and archiving of the work of Master Simon Benetton, the archive, thanks to its scientific committee, has the task of protecting and enhancing all the artistic heritage created by the Master in life.

"The Simon Benetton Historical Archive" works in close contact with the "Simon Benetton Museum" for archiving and coordination activities.

The Scientific Committee meets periodically with the aim of archiving the entire production of the Great Master and promoting cultural events aimed at highlighting the historical contribution that Maestro Simon Benetton has given to modern art during over sixty years of artistic and intellectual activity.

Recalling the Bauhaus style, a fundamental reference point for all the innovation movements in the field of design and architecture of the early twentieth century in northern Europe, linked to rationalism and functionalism, which are part of the so-called modern movement, under commission of Eng Vasco Bernardi and the associated Studio Alvise and Vittorio D'Allarmi of Valdobbiadene, the building born in the sixties was conceived as a center for tailoring.

On the ground floor of the building, the commercial activity welcomed customers who, at that time, requested clothes, suits, or individual accessories.

On the first floor there was the laboratory for the cuts of the various models, handcrafted with the help of sewing machines, while the second floor was used as a warehouse for fine fabrics. It was the year 1965 and given the location, the client asked Simon Benetton, then thirty, to build a helical staircase in wrought iron, to give easy access to the various levels of the building.

The staircase had to be light in the sign but with a sturdy structure, in addition it had to represent the "tailoring" product category for the first large boutique in Valdobbiadene, so it was that the Palazzo had a soul; "Armonia in ferro del Segno" was born, an extraordinary conceptual work for the essence of genius as the young Simon Benetton already was, elegant and eternal for the unique style and therefore myth because it is timeless and never out of fashion, designed to "measure" the property , just like the classic dresses of the many customers that were once worn in the halls of the palace.

A fashion show for the customers of the country, unaware at that time of crossing a post-modern helical platform, precursor of an innovative catwalk of the great fashion shows.
