The Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia

Arriving in last century Latvia, which is hidden in a pine forest behind Lake Jugla, do not try to perceive it as a reality. This was only the case with previous generations which have already disappeared. What you will see, even what you will feel, will be just an idea of the people of the time about your people's past.

The museum was founded in 1924, but the ancient buildings that were moved here, reinstalled and furnished were opened to the public in the summer of 1932. Today, 87 hectares of farmhouses, artisan houses, windmills, blacksmiths, potters and tar kilns, typical of Kurzeme, Zemgale, Vidzeme and Latgale, are located in an area of 87 hectares.

Today the museum organizes numerous cultural events, such as folk concerts and traditional and craft festivals. The museum promotes traditional Latvian culture and lifestyle with these cultural events. The annual traditional handicraft fair has been organized by the museum since 1971. The annual handicraft fair becomes the museum's most famous annual event, attended by tens of thousands of people each year.
