National Museum of Fine Arts

The National Museum of Fine Arts of Latvia (Latvijas Nacionalais mākslas muzejs) is an exhibition space located in Riga and dedicated to the development of pictorial art in the Baltic region and Latvia from the mid-18th century to the present. It also displays a collection of Russian artists considered to be the richest in the Baltics.

It is housed in a monumental building in via Krisjanis Valdemars. Erected in 1905, the building was designed by the German-Latvian architect and art historian Wilhelm Neumann. The facade is in baroque and classical style.

Inside, the atrium and stairs retain elements of Art Nouveau, while in the upper atrium there is a series of paintings by the Latvian painter Vilhelms Purvitis and the master of Estonian classical art Gerhard von Rosen.

After a period of refurbishment, the museum is open to the public in the spring of 2016.
