The International Museum of Children's Art in Oslo


The International Museum of Children's Art in Oslo, Norway (Det Internasjonale Barnekunstmuseet) is a pioneering institution, being the first life-sized Museum of Children's Art in the world. Today, the museum's art collection contains works of art by children and teenagers from over 180 countries.

The Museum was founded in 1986 by the Foundation for the History, Art and Culture of Children. Director Rafael Goldin (1920-1994) and his wife, Doctor of Medicine, Alla Goldin (1938-2007), conceived and developed the idea of ​​this unique museum and collection.

 

Children are said to be people. But people don't exist without a culture. Children are people who belong to the future. And they have the right to their culture, their art and their history.

THE FUNDAMENTAL FUNCTIONS OF THE MUSEUM

  • STORAGE: We collect children's art from all over the world and preserve it for the future.
  • CREATION: Children and adults visiting the Museum will be able to participate in the activities: music, singing and painting - outdoor activities during the summer.
  • PRESENTATION: The Museum will organize traveling exhibitions on various topics both at home and abroad.

Exhibits can be sent to schools, art associations, businesses and other organizations. National and international competitions will be organized, which will be celebrated in a traditional annual exhibition. The Museum publishes reproductions of images for children, magazines, children's art catalogs and books on various topics.

The museum is owned by the Private Foundation of Children's History, Art and Culture, founded in 1980. It is governed by a board of members and the museum is a member of the Association of Norwegian Museums of Art and Social History, and the International Society of UNESCO museums. The museum receives an annual grant from the Norwegian Ministry of Culture.
