Norsk Folkemuseum


The Norsk Folkemuseum (Norwegian People's Museum) is an open-air museum in Oslo, Norway.

It is located on the Bygdøy peninsula, where there are also other important museums such as the Kon-Tiki museum, the Fram museum and the Viking Ship Museum.

The museum was founded by Hans Aall in 1894. Since 1898 it has been based on the Bygdøy peninsula, near Oslo. It opened to the public in 1901.

In 1907 it was merged with the collection of King Oscar II of Sweden, which also included the Gol Stave Church, moved there in 1885 and still part of the museum today.

Open air museum showing 155 traditional houses from different Norwegian regions.

Large, full of activities for children in summer: folk dance, preparation of "lefser", a type of sweet flatbread, artisan workshops, animals, guides dressed in traditional costumes, horse-drawn carriage rides, historic playground and old shop which sells traditional sweets and candies.

Numerous exhibits in the museum: traditional costumes, folk art and Sami culture.


In the pre-Christmas period: Christmas market.
