Karosta Prison - The only military prison in Europe open to tourists

Karosta prison or bodyguard. The building was built around 1900 and until 1997 served as a place for military discipline. From the earliest years, it has been a gloomy place to break people's fates and oppress the free spirit. Powers changed and with them prisoners, revolutionaries, sailors and non-commissioned officers of the Tsar's army, German deserters from the Wehrmacht, enemies of the people of the Stalin era, soldiers of the Soviet army and the Latvian army and other disobedient people. The last prisoners left inscriptions on the cell walls until relatively recently, in 1997.
