Miho Museum of Kyoto

The Miho Museum is a Japanese exhibition facility, located southeast of Kyoto, in the city of Shigaraki, in Shiga Prefecture. The architectural realization took place on a project by the architect Ieoh Ming Pei, already known, among other things, as the author of the Louvre Pyramid.

The museum was the realization of a dream cultivated by one of Japan's richest women, Mihoko Koyama (1910-2003), after whom the museum takes its name, heiress of the Toyobo Corporation textile businesses. Koyama was already known for having founded the Shumei spiritual movement in 1970, which is said to have reached 300,000 followers worldwide. In the 1990s, Koyama commissioned the construction of the museum adjacent to the Shumei Temple in the Shigaraki Mountains.
