Meguro Parasitological Museum

The Meguro Parasitological Museum in Meguro, Tokyo claims to be the only museum of its kind in the world, a museum dedicated to insects, parasites, and other creatures that live dependent on or on other organisms, including humans.

Established in 1953, the Meguro Parasitological Museum has two floors of parasite specimens preserved in formaldehyde jars.

Samples on display include roundworms, flukes and malaria parasites.

The first floor introduces parasites in general to a variety of creatures including fish, while the second floor has around 300 specimens of human parasites including liver flukes and a 30-foot-long worm taken from an unfortunate patient.

The museum shop sells tapeworm t-shirts, parasitology books, bags, rulers and parasite keychains.

Meguro Parasitological Museum has a research center and library containing over 50,000 documents and 5,000 books on parasitology from both Japan and abroad.
