Temple of Venus - Sex Museum Amsterdam

The Sexmuseum or the Temple of Venus (Sex Museum Amsterdam) is a sex museum located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The museum opened in 1985. It had 675,000 visitors in 2015, making it one of the most visited museums in the Netherlands.

The museum features a large collection of images, recordings, photos, paintings and artifacts that convey to visitors the evolution of human sexuality over the centuries.

The exhibits present the history of sex and how it has evolved over the centuries. From Cleopatra's regiment of men, the Romans' insatiable appetite for sex, to the repressive Middle Ages, visitors are presented with the way sex was viewed in all historical civilizations.

A special museum in the field of love with a large collection of erotic sculptures, paintings, images, objects and much more. Before the opening of the temple of Venus there was a museum on everything, but the historical and artistic side of sex remained underexposed. And this while it is a topic that intrigues everyone and about which there is so much to tell.

Because what is called "the most natural thing in the world" can also be "the most historic thing in the world". Eroticism has taken thousands of forms over the centuries, and that's exactly what this museum shows.

The collection is exhibited in a 17th century building consisting of a front house and two rear houses connected by the imposing staircase. The mysterious web of corridors and stairways makes our visitors discover ever new things. The collection of various cultures and eras often offers everyone hours of visual pleasure.
