Social Theater of Pinerolo

The Social Theater of Pinerolo was built between 1836 and 1842 in Pinerolo (Turin - Piedmont - Italy). With royal approval on 30 June 1838 and with a notarial deed the following year, the birth of the new theater was officially defined. The project was entrusted to the architect Tommaso Onofrio di Canelli and the construction to the entrepreneur Gabriele Ghiano.

The inauguration took place on April 2, 1842.

The first performance was Bellini's "The Stranger" on 14 August 1842.

The Social Theater of Pinerolo represented an important cultural hub for the Pinerolo area for decades.

On 9 April 1972 a devastating fire completely destroyed the theater, leaving only the facades intact.
