La Civitella Archaeological Park and National Archaeological Museum

The National Archaeological Museum is located in the "La Civitella" Archaeological Park in Chieti based on a project by the architect Ettore De Lellis, former designer of the Paludi Museum in Celano.

The current museum structure, which is partly located in underground floors, is an integral part of a complex with gardens, pedestrian areas, an auditorium, an archaeological laboratory, environments for recreational and educational activities and an environment for temporary exhibitions.

Since December 2014, the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities has managed it through the Abruzzo Museum Complex, which in December 2019 became the Regional Museum Directorate.

The first collection of archaeological material, after the excavations carried out in Chieti, was commissioned by the superintendent Vincenzo Zecca, who worked to set up an exhibition of his collection at the town hall.

Among these works there was also the tomb of the freedman Lusius Storax, found in the Santa Maria Calvona district.

However, after a few years, the museum closed due to lack of funds.
