The National Archaeological Museum of Gioia del Colle

The National Archaeological Museum of Gioia del Colle is located in the sale on the ground floor of the Norman-Swabian castle and collects archaeological finds from excavations in the areas of Monte Sannace and Santo Mola, which have brought to light a settlement of ancient Peucezi.

Since December 2014, the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities has been managing it through the Apulia Museum Complex, which in December 2019 became the Regional Directorate for Museums.

A municipal museum was originally housed in the former convent of San Francesco, in Piazza Plebiscito, when in 1959 the Superintendence of Antiquities of Puglia and Matera had given the green light to the institution from a museum that collected the finds from excavations carried out in the areas of Monte Sannace and Santo Mola in the period between 1940 and 1953.
