The Regional Museum of Natural History and permanent exhibition of the Sicilian cart is located near the "Praiola" beach in Terrasini, a municipality in the province of Palermo.
The Regional Museum of Terrasini is housed in the Palazzo d'Aumale which was one of the many properties of Duke Henri d'Orleans, Duke of Aumale, son of Louis Philippe, King of France and Maria Amelia of Bourbon, who created an industry in places where traditional agricultural-pastoral and maritime production was still widespread, quickly starting a thriving business that had resonance at a European level.
An intelligent prince, he was born in 1822, a classy scholar, an extraordinary collector, a soldier of genius, an unparalleled businessman, gifted in everything and excellent in everything. He had great ideals, including a military career. Appointed officer, he defended the Bourbon conquest of Algeria. The conquest of Algeria made the Duke of Aumale very popular. For his merits he was promoted to Lieutenant General (General de Division), awarded the Legion d'Honeur.
He married the daughter of the Prince of Salerno, Maria Carolina, with whom he had two children: the first Louis Prince of Condé, the second Henri Leopold Duke of Guise.
The building, now municipal property, was intended to display and preserve the naturalistic, ethno-anthropological, archaeological, documentary and bibliographic collections owned by the regional administration, as well as all the finds owned by the Municipality of Terrasini and constituting the collections of the then Civic Museum.
