Budapest Parliament

The Parliament of Budapes is a building in Budapest, the symbol of the city.

It is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the city and a true symbol of Hungary. It is located on the Pest side of the Danube and is the seat of the Hungarian National Assembly.

The Országház was conceived in the nineteenth century to underline, with a sumptuous and representative palace, the independence finally achieved by the Hungarians within the Austro-Hungarian empire: previously, the Magyars had partly detached from Austria to form the so-called Transleitania, the Hungarian half of the enormous Habsburg empire (this is the division called Ausgleich).

In the meantime, in 1873, the three cities of Óbuda, Buda and Pest were united in a single, large and new capital to give a new urban imprint.
