National Museum of Prague


The National Museum of Prague is a Czech museum and cultural institution (Národní Muzeum).

The main building is located on the southeast side of Wenceslas Square.

It has about 14 million pieces in various collections of natural sciences, mineralogy, archeology, anthropology, numismatics and was founded in 1818 by Kašpar Maria Šternberg.

The museum system includes, in addition to the historic building on Wenceslas Square, the new building located in Vinohradská 1, the Náprstek Museum of Asian, African and American Cultures, the Czech Museum of Music, the Smetana Museum, the DvoÅ™ák Museum, the Lapidárium (Lapidary), the Ethnographic Museum.

Musaion, the Vítkov Hill National Memorial, the Jaroslav Ježek Memorial, the František Palacký and František Ladislav Rieger Memorials and other buildings located in other places in the Czech Republic.
