The Royal Palace, is a historic building in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It stands on the central Dam square and is also known as Amsterdam City Hall; as it was built to house the seat of the Municipality, to then be transformed into a royal residence.
Superb example of Dutch Baroque architecture, it is also the most important historical and cultural monument of the entire Dutch Golden Age; as well as Jacob van Campen's masterpiece. It was declared Rijksmonument in 1970.
